Glossary / Acceptance rate

Acceptance rate

The share of job offers, such as rides or deliveries, that a gig worker accepts out of all the offers an app sent over a recent period.

Acceptance rate is the percentage of offers you accept out of the offers a gig app sends you. Accept 30 of 40 offers and your rate is 75 percent. Apps that send you rides or deliveries to accept or decline often track it.

There's no single definition. Each platform decides how many recent offers or days count, which offers are left out, and whether the number affects anything, such as rewards programs or promotions. Those rules change, so check your own app's help pages for how it works where you drive.

The law can limit what a platform does with it. In California, Proposition 22 treats app-based drivers as independent contractors when certain conditions are met, and one of them is that the company does not require a driver to accept any specific ride or delivery request as a condition of keeping access to the app.

For your money, acceptance rate matters less than what you earn per hour and per mile. Taking every low offer can raise your rate and lower your pay once you count the miles and the waiting time. Compare your earnings with all your active hours and your logged miles, and check your real rate with the hourly rate calculator.

Acceptance rate has no effect on your taxes. Your 1099 income and deductible miles are the same whatever the number says.
