Backup and sync

Your shift history is worth protecting, especially at tax time. Cashout gives you two ways to keep it: a backup file you save yourself, with no account, and an optional account that syncs your data between phones.

Backup & Restore (Android)

  1. Go to Settings, then Data, then Backup & Restore.
  2. Choose to save a backup. Your phone's file picker opens, so you decide where the file goes.
  3. Optionally set a passphrase of 8 characters or more. The file is then encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and only that passphrase opens it.
  4. To restore, pick the file. Cashout shows a summary of what's in it and asks Replace everything on this phone? before it changes anything.

A backup holds all of your Cashout data on the phone, except receipt photos, in one file. Backup & Restore is on Android for now, and it's coming to iPhone. To move between Android and iPhone today, use an account and sync.

Account and sync

  1. Create an account with your email and a password, then verify your email.
  2. Once you're signed in, your data syncs with Cashout's server. On Android, Sync Now in Settings runs a sync right away.
  3. Sign in with the same account on another phone and your data comes along, including between Android and iPhone.

What syncs: jobs, shifts, tips, mileage, expenses (including the text read from receipts), pay stubs, scheduled shifts, your pay period, tax profile, tax savings, income goal, Tip Split templates, bills and sections. If the same thing is edited on two phones, the newer edit wins.

Sync goes over HTTPS to Cashout's own server, so it's encrypted in transit. Cashout doesn't claim it's encrypted on the server. An account is also what you need for the AI Coach and the Break Room.

Sync on iPhone 5.0.0 has known bugs: a shift you delete on iPhone isn't deleted on the server, so it can come back on your other phone, and very long histories may not all download. Fixes are coming to iPhone.

What they don't do

You can delete your account in the app or at cashout.tips/delete-account/. That deletes your synced data from the server; the data on your phone stays.
