Overtime tracker
Overtime shows how close you are to your weekly overtime threshold, and on Android whether the shifts you have scheduled will push you over and roughly what the extra pay should be. It uses the federal weekly rule, so it's a check, not the last word.
How it works
- On Android, open Insights, then Tools, then Overtime.
- The ring shows your hours This week against the threshold, and how many hours you have to go.
- Below it, With your scheduled shifts projects where you'll end the week, and how much of it would be overtime, once the rest of your scheduled shifts are worked.
- Breakdown splits the week into regular and overtime hours and shows the Extra pay overtime adds on top of your hourly wage, before taxes.
- By employer and By job show where the hours came from, and Last 4 weeks shows your recent history.
- Under Overtime starts after, set the threshold between 30 and 60 hours a week. Use 40 (federal) puts it back to the federal number. Use a lower number if your employer or contract starts overtime sooner.
How Android figures the extra pay
Overtime pays 1.5 times your regular rate. For a tipped job, the app treats your regular rate as at least the $7.25 federal minimum wage, even when your hourly wage is lower, and doesn't count tips toward it. So the extra pay for each overtime hour is half of that regular rate. If you worked at more than one rate in the week, the app uses the hours-weighted average. If your state's minimum wage is higher than $7.25, the real amount owed can be a bit higher than what the app shows. Our tipped overtime calculator works it out with your state's numbers.
Overtime is counted per employer. Hours at two different employers aren't added together. Jobs without an employer name are treated as one employer, which fits the usual case of several roles at the same restaurant.
On Android 6.0 there was only a warning card on the Dashboard; the full Overtime screen came in 6.1.0.

What it doesn't do
- Federal weekly overtime only. Daily overtime, like California's after 8 hours in a day, isn't included, and neither are other state rules.
- Your employer's workweek may start on a different day than the one the app uses, which can move hours from one week to the next.
- It only counts the shifts you log. It doesn't read your time clock.
- It's an estimate, not a legal determination of what you're owed.
- It doesn't include the federal overtime tax deduction. That isn't in the app yet; see our No Tax on Overtime guide.
Overtime works with no account and no internet.
