Reports and exports
Get your shift history out of the app as a spreadsheet or a PDF, for your own records, a tax preparer, or anyone who asks what you make. A separate year-end Tax Summary pulls your income, estimated tax, mileage and expenses into one PDF.
How it works
Export Shifts
- On Android, go to Settings, then Data, then Export Shifts, or tap the share icon on the Shifts tab.
- Under Dates, pick This month, Last month, This year, Last year or Custom.
- Under Job, keep All jobs or pick one.
- Check the Summary: number of shifts, hours, tips after tip-out, wages, total and average per hour.
- Tap Export Spreadsheet (CSV) or Export PDF Report, then send the file wherever you want through the share sheet.
The spreadsheet has one row per shift with the date, day, job, section, hours, rate, cash tips, card tips, tip-out, net tips, wages, total, per hour, reported tips and notes, plus a totals row. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. The PDF Shift Report has the same shifts on numbered pages.
Files are made on your phone and only go where you share them.
Tax Summary Export
- Open Taxes and tap Tax Summary Export.
- Pick the Tax Year and check the Summary Preview.
- Tap Export Tax Summary PDF and share it.
On Android the PDF has these sections:
- Income Summary: total earnings, tips net of tip-out, wages, hours, shifts logged, average per shift and effective hourly rate.
- Income by Job and a Monthly Earnings Breakdown.
- Tip Reporting Summary: cash tips received, card tips received, tip-out paid, net tips, tips reported to your employer and any unreported gap.
- Estimated Tax Liability: federal and state tax, your effective rate, what you've saved in Tax Savings and what's left to save, and quarterly estimated payments with due dates.
- Mileage & Work Expenses: total miles, their value at the IRS rate and your work expenses.
Your filing status, state and W-2 income from your Tax Profile are printed at the top. It's a summary for your own records that a tax preparer can work from, not a tax form and not tax advice.
Android and iPhone
| Android | iPhone | |
|---|---|---|
| Shift CSV and PDF | Yes, since 6.1.0 | Yes |
| Tax Summary PDF | Yes | Yes, as Tax Summary Report |
On iPhone 5.0.0 there are two known problems: a quotation mark in a note isn't escaped in the CSV, which can push that row's columns out of line, and long job names can overlap other text in the PDF.
What it doesn't do
- It isn't proof of income. The reports are your own self-reported shift data. Cashout doesn't verify or certify them, and there's no income letter for landlords or lenders.
- It isn't a tax form and isn't filed anywhere. Your W-2, any 1099s and your own records are what count.
- If Excel on your computer is set to a region that uses a comma for decimals, the CSV can open in a single column. Use Excel's import option, or open it in Google Sheets.
- Exports only include what you've logged in the app.
Exports work with no account and no internet.
