Features / Shift tracker
Shift tracker
Log each shift once and Cashout works out what it paid: wages, net tips and your real hourly rate. Schedule the shifts coming up so your forecasts and widgets know what's ahead.
How it works
Log a shift
- Tap Log shift or the + button. On iPhone it's Log Shift.
- Pick the job, then enter the date and your hours, or a start and end time.
- Add your hourly rate, cash tips, card tips, tip-out, unpaid break and the tips you reported to your employer. Mileage, a star rating and notes are optional.
- Save. Cashout shows the shift's earnings, net tips and per-hour rate, and rolls it into your daily, weekly and monthly totals and charts.
On Android you can search your shifts by job, notes, section or date. Swipe a shift left to delete it (with Undo), or right to copy it to today, which helps when you work the same shift often.
Time a shift (Android)
- Tap Start shift on the Dashboard card ("Working now?") or on the Shift tile in Quick Settings.
- A "Shift in progress" notification shows a running clock and an End shift button. The Dashboard shows elapsed time and wages so far.
- When you clock out, tap End shift. The shift editor opens with your start and end times filled in, so you only add tips and save.
Schedule shifts
In the Calendar tab, tap Schedule Shift and add the job and start and end times. You'll see the expected hours and wages before tips. Scheduled shifts feed the pay period forecast, the overtime projection, the Next Shift widget and the AI Coach. On Android, a "Shift coming up" notification reminds you before the shift starts.
Sections
If you work different sections, stations or areas, like the patio or the bar, add them to the job and tag each shift. Insights then breaks your tips down by section, so you can see which ones pay.
Android and iPhone
| Android | iPhone | |
|---|---|---|
| Log, edit and search shifts | Yes | Yes |
| Shift timer | Dashboard card, notification and Quick Settings tile | Coming to iPhone |
| Schedule shifts | Yes, and you can edit or delete them | Yes, but scheduled shifts can't be edited or deleted yet |
| Shift reminders | Yes | Not working in 5.0.0 |
| Sections | Yes, synced with an account | Yes, kept on the phone only |
On Android 14 and later, reminders arrive at the exact time only if you allow "Alarms & reminders" for Cashout; otherwise they may not arrive at the exact time. Android 14 also lets you swipe the timer notification away. The timer keeps running, and the Dashboard card still shows it.
What it doesn't do
- It doesn't clock you in on its own. You start the timer or log the shift yourself.
- It doesn't import schedules from scheduling apps or your phone's calendar. You add upcoming shifts by hand.
- A running shift stays on your phone until you log it. It doesn't sync to your other devices while the clock is running.
- Money fields go up to six whole digits, so $999,999 is the most one field can hold.
- Removing a section deactivates it rather than deleting it. On iPhone, sections can't be renamed.
Cashout works with no account and no internet. If you sign in, your shifts sync between phones; see backup and sync.
