Tipped minimum wage / Oregon
Oregon tipped minimum wage
What employers must pay
Oregon does not allow a tip credit. Your employer has to pay the full minimum wage of $15.55 an hour, and your tips are on top of that.
Rate depends on where you work: $15.55 standard, $16.80 inside the Portland metro urban growth boundary, and $14.55 in 18 nonurban counties.
What changes next
Oregon adjusts its minimum wage on July 1, 2027. The new amount had not been published when this page was checked on October 15, 2026. The state raises the standard rate with inflation and will announce it by April 30, 2027. The Portland metro rate stays $1.25 above it, and the nonurban counties rate stays $1.00 below.
Local and regional rates
Some places in Oregon have their own minimum wage or a regional rate. If you work there, the rate listed here applies.
| Place | Minimum | Cash wage | Since |
|---|---|---|---|
| Portland metro (inside the urban growth boundary)A state-set regional rate, always $1.25 above the standard rate. Cities and counties in Oregon can't set their own minimum wage. | $16.80 | $16.80 | July 1, 2026 |
Tip pooling and service charges
Employers may require tip pooling. Because Oregon allows no tip credit, pools may include back of house staff who do not usually get tips, but employers, managers and supervisors may not share in the pool under federal rules.
Overtime
Time and a half after 40 hours in a workweek; daily overtime after 10 hours applies only in certain canneries, packing plants and manufacturing. With no tip credit, overtime is 1.5 times the full regular rate.
Taxes on your tips
Oregon taxes wage income, and tips are wages, so its income tax applies to your tips. Federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare still apply. The federal tip deduction can cut the income tax part: see how the No Tax on Tips deduction works.
If you are underpaid
Start by comparing your pay stubs with your own record of hours and tips. If the numbers don't add up, you can file a complaint with the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI), Wage and Hour Division: how to file. You can also call the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, at 1-866-487-9243.
